A Pre-Lenten Homecoming Journey with Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos is an intimate journey through Athens and the Peloponnese in the sacred days leading toward Great Lent. Designed especially for Greek Americans seeking a deeper connection to Orthodox faith, heritage, history, food, village life, and ancestral memory, this journey moves through some of the most meaningful spiritual and cultural landscapes of southern Greece.

Guided by Bishop Demetrios, participants will experience Greece through the living rhythms of the Orthodox calendar: prayer, remembrance, fellowship, feast, fast, family, and return. From Ancient Corinth and the world of St. Paul to Agia Moni, Mycenae, Kalavryta, Mega Spileo, Patras, Tsiknopempti, Pylos, Marathopolis, Saturday of Souls, and the sacred landscape of Messinia, the journey invites travelers into traditions that have shaped generations of Greek Orthodox faithful.

Arrive in Athens and transfer privately from Athens International Airport to the hotel, allowing the journey to begin at an unhurried pace.

That evening, gather for a welcome dinner with Bishop Demetrios as Athens and the Acropolis set the tone for a journey of faith, memory, and return.

Cross into the Peloponnese for a guided visit to Ancient Corinth, where Bishop Demetrios reflects on St. Paul and the first Christian communities of the Greek world.

Travel south from Patras toward Pylos and the intimate Messinian chapter of the journey, with lunch en route and time to settle in after arrival.

In the Marathopolis area, take part in a hands-on kolyva-making experience. Bishop Demetrios guides a reflection on Orthodox memory as participants prepare memorial offerings and may submit names of departed loved ones for the following morning’s service.

Begin with the Saturday of Souls / Psychosavvato service at Metamorphosis Church in Marathopolis, using the kolyva prepared by the group. The church stands in the landscape of Bishop Demetrios’s family roots, joining faith, ancestry, and remembrance.

Continue through Messinia to the Palace of Nestor and Ancient Messene, exploring Homeric memory, freedom, restoration, and the enduring longing for home.

Overnight: Pylos / Messinia

Begin the return toward Athens with a visit to the Mystras area, one of the great Byzantine landscapes of the Peloponnese. Its churches, monastic spaces, and fortress walls evoke the Orthodox civilization that shaped Greek spiritual and cultural inheritance.

After lunch en route, continue to the Athens Airport area for a smooth final overnight before departure.

Booking Deadline

Bookings should be completed by December 1, 2026. After that date, reservations will be accepted only if space remains and full payment is made at booking.

There is no additional charge for using the installment plan. The organizer will absorb standard WeTravel and card-processing fees.

Cancellation and Refunds

• The first one-third payment is nonrefundable upon booking.

• Beginning October 15, 2026, the first two-thirds of the total trip price are nonrefundable.

• Beginning December 1, 2026, the full trip price is nonrefundable.

• If the organizer cancels the journey because the minimum of 25 paid travelers is not reached, all participant payments will be refunded in full.

Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
